Every trip to the mouse costs a second or two. Multiply that by hundreds of times a day and you lose hours each week. These ten shortcuts give that time back. (Mac users: swap Ctrl for Cmd unless noted.)
Browser shortcuts
- Ctrl + Shift + T – reopen the tab you just closed by accident.
- Ctrl + L – jump straight to the address bar.
- Ctrl + Tab – cycle through open tabs (this one stays Ctrl on Mac too).
Text editing shortcuts
- Ctrl + Backspace – delete a whole word at once (Mac: Option + Delete).
- Ctrl + Shift + V – paste without formatting in most browsers and Google Docs (Mac: Cmd + Shift + Option + V in many apps).
- Ctrl + Z / Ctrl + Y – undo and redo.
Windows superpowers
- Win + V – clipboard history, so you can paste something you copied earlier.
- Win + Shift + S – snip a screenshot of any part of the screen (Mac: Cmd + Shift + 4).
- Win + L – lock your PC instantly when you step away (Mac: Ctrl + Cmd + Q).
- Win + . – open the emoji picker anywhere (Mac: Ctrl + Cmd + Space).
💡 Tip: Don’t try to learn all ten today. Pick two, use them deliberately for a week, then add two more.
Make them stick
Write your chosen shortcuts on a sticky note next to your screen. After a few days of forcing yourself to use them, muscle memory takes over and you will never go back.
